Judge Bishop earned his law degree from the University of California, Davis, in 2005. For three years Judge Bishop learned and studied the law, including criminal law and procedure, civil law and procedure, evidence, family law, contracts, torts, legal research, legal writing and the death penalty.
Judge Bishop also learned courtroom procedure, by taking courses in trial practice and appellate advocacy.
Judge Bishop earned a Master's Degree in Judicial Studies from the University of Nevada, Reno, in 2022. This degree program is open to very few applicants and only approximately 250 people have successfully graduated from the program in nearly 40 years. In his studies, Judge Bishop received training in writing, evidence, logic, scientific evidence, psychology and other Judicial topics.
After completing his general educational requirements, in a community college, Judge Bishop earned a dual major Bachelor's Degree in History and Political Science from the University of Nevada, Reno, in 2002. While attending UNR, he took fencing lessons, worked as a library clerk, and tutor and volunteered in the 2nd Judicial District Court.
Judge Bishop has been repeatedly recognized by the Nevada Supreme Court for educational excellence. He is regularly invited to teach Court staff and fellow judges at events at the UNLV Law School and across the State. He has been a panelist in various sessions and has also taught courses in small claims, discovery, bail, the 4th Amendment and probable cause. In 2024, he earned the Distinguished Faculty Award from the Nevada Supreme Court.
