Judge Bishop was unanimously appointed in 2011 and has served as Justice of the Peace in Ely Justice Court for over 12 years. In that time, he has managed the court, presided over hundreds of trials and hearings and has managed thousands of cases, both criminal and civil. He has experience managing and presiding over cases with a right to jury trial. He has developed procedures to address changes in the law and is recognized for cost-saving efficiency and innovation across the State.
Judge Bishop passed the bar exam in both California and Nevada. He has been a licensed attorney for over 18 years. In addition to his other experience, he managed a small private law office.
Judge Bishop is a former prosecutor for the White Pine County District Attorney's Office. He tried multiple cases to juries and understands the Courtroom process. He prosecuted hundreds of cases in Ely Justice Court, making him intimately familiar with the operations of the Justice Court. He defended appeals to the Nevada Supreme Court and represented the State in child custody matters.
Judge Bishop served as a law clerk to four Nevada District Court Judges. Law clerks generally only serve a single term with a single judge. Judge Bishop, however, was honored to be invited to serve for and learn from four different judges. From each of these different Judges, he learned various skills and techniques for managing litigation in a courtroom.
While earning his diplomas and degrees Judge Bishop also worked as an intern for District Attorneys' Office in both Nevada County and Sacramento County. He was also a research assistant at the University of California, Davis, helping to conduct research on the Hague Convention on International Child Abduction by Parents.
